I am becoming not only more and more disgusted, but more frightened
by the comments on all articles regarding rape culture, objectification of women, and any violence towards women.
The number of comments (mostly from men) blasting the articles as “feminist propaganda” or “typical feminist sexism” and other bullshit stuff is, while not entirely surprising, both terrifying and nauseating. They would argue with me if I told them this, but it really seems like they are sympathizing with the rapists/abusers. It’s like, they are so afraid they could someday be accused of rape. Hey, how’s this? DON’T RAPE PEOPLE. I can understand the fear of being falsely accused, but come the fuck on. Do you really think that people are accused of rape falsely (and then convicted and punished) more often than victims a) don’t report it, b) aren’t believe and c) are outright shamed and actually punished themselves?
I am fucking sick to death of this men’s right bullshit. They just don’t. get. it. They don’t get that they are acting just like white people whining about there “not being a white history month.”
The sad thing is, this happens just as much with so-called progressive, liberal, “open-minded” men who would never think of themselves as sexist as it does with total dude-bros.
I don’t want to play into the “feminists hate men” stereotype, and I know not all men are like this, but the sheer number that jump to the defense of abusers and immediately attempt to discredit victims, silence women, and minimize or outright deny the existence of rape culture is really making me, at worst, hate men, and at best, be highly untrusting of them.
I apologize to my male followers. Y’all are cool. But seriously, a biggggg portion of your gender is fucking up royally.
